Manchester United have confirmed that Argentine defender Marcos Rojo will be joining the club with winger Nani heading in the opposite direction on a season long loan, Sky
The Argentina international, who played all seven of his country’s World Cup games this summer, had earlier hinted at the deal himself and now official word on the transfer has come from Old Trafford too.
A club statement said: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign defender Marcos Rojo.
“A further announcement will be made when the process is complete.”
The 24-year-old will join his new club subject to a medical and personal terms being agreed, becoming Louis van Gaal’s third signing of the summer – Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera have already arrived in big money deals.
Rojo only returned to training with Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon for a short while following an apology to the club, after the player had previously tried to force a transfer to the Premier League club.
But he has now got his wish that sees Nani re-join the club he left for Old Trafford in 2007, scoring 25 goals in 147 United appearances.
Speaking in a recent interview the Argentinian said: “It’s a dream to play at Manchester United and I am very proud of having the chance of working with [Louis] van Gaal.”
