Nigerian international forward Brown Ideye has finally been granted a work permit to allow him to play for West Bromwich Albion, BBC
The 25-year-old agreed a transfer from Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv in mid-July for a reported £10 million, making him the Baggies’ record signing.
However, Ideye ran into difficulties when there was a delay in the processing of his visa, leaving him unable to travel to England and meet up with his new team mates, or participate in any of West Brom’s pre-season friendly programme.
But he confirmed that he has now received notification that the work permit application was successful, and he will shortly be able to begin his English career, saying: “The British High commission called my club to inform them that I have been issued the visa. This is a positive news. I’m close to my phone waiting for the call to let me know when it’s ready for pick up.”
While Ideye has been maintaining his fitness with training at home in Nigeria, he recognised the importance of linking up with his new team as soon as possible.
“I’ve been training here all the while but now my bags are packed and I’m ready to join the team in England. I need to join the team first then train with the squad in front of the manager and so far I have not been able to do that,” said the Lagos-born striker.
Ideye was a Nigerian Premier League winner with Ocean Boys before moving to Europe, representing Swiss side Neuch
