West Ham United will be desperate to earn their first home win of the new season when they take on Southampton on Saturday.
A late sting in the tail against Tottenham and an unfortunate own goal by Winston Reid to hand League One Sheffield United an equaliser has seen both matches at the Boleyn Ground end in disappointing fashion for the hosts.
However, the Hammers will be more encouraged by their terrific display at Crystal Palace, where they outplayed their London rivals throughout thanks to some fine passing football, and were very clinical in front of goal. Manager Sam Allardyce will be hoping it was not just a flash in the pan.
Ronald Koeman claimed his first win as Southampton boss at nearby Millwall on Tuesday in what was a very positive tacking performance. The Dutchman will be hoping his men can repeat that in the Premier League, where they did not quite hit the heights against West Bromwich Albion last time out in a game which showed that their new-look squad is still to completely gel.
The home side are without Andy Carroll, Matt Jarvis, Carl Jenkinson, Kevin Nolan and James Collins, who has picked up a hamstring injury in training. To make matters worse, Diafra Sakho is doubtful with a back problem.
Southampton are unable to call upon Lloyd Isgrove and Jay Rodriguez, but otherwise they have a fully-fit squad and could hand a full debut to Shane Long.
