Arsenal looking at Yobo and Lugano to ease defensive worries

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could look to former Everton and Norwich City defender Joseph Yobo or ex-Paris Saint-Germain and West Bromwich Albion centre-back Diego Lugano has he contends with a defensive injury crisis, ESPN has reported.

Wenger has only Calum Chambers, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny as senior centre-backs and injuries in midweek weakened the Gunners team for the Champions League visit to Borussia Dortmund. Arsenal lost 2-0 and it’s said Wenger is looking at free agents he can add to his squad to bolster the ranks.

Yobo and Lugano have been without a club since the end of the season, the former ending the campaign with relegated Norwich, on loan from Fenerbahce, while Lugano left the Baggies having made only seven appearances.

Lugano, 33, previously represented PSG, Malaga and Fenerbahce and has almost 100 caps for Uruguay. Yobo spent eight years at Goodison Park, making more than 200 appearances for the Toffees. The 34-year-old has also played for Marseille and Standard Liege and has more than 100 caps for Nigeria.
