Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal could be plunged further in to an injury crisis as they await reports of the knock picked up by Jack Wilshere last night, the Daily
Wilshere appeared to twist his ankle in the closing stages of their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, and anxiously await to see if he will join their growing list of injuries.
Mathieu Debuchy suffered ligament damage at the weekend that has ruled him out for at least two months, while Nacho Monreal has a bad back and did not travel to Germany with the squad.
Callum Chambers is now also overcoming a bout of tonsillitis – which left hector Bellerin to make his full competitive debut in the Champions League, while Kieran Gibbs, who has only just proved his fitness, came back in at left back.
There is no cover left for the central defensive duo of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker either, and the possibility of adding Wilshere to the list will pose a massive headache for boss Wenger, who is also dealing with heavy criticism about his out of form stars.
What will cause much worry will be the fact that the 22-year-old rolled the same joint that kept him side lined for 17 months.
Wenger admitted that normally the potential injury would not be a huge worry, but given the injury track record of the England youngster there is a greater need for caution.
