Arsenal’s Wilshere welcomes Welbeck signing

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has welcomed the arrival of England teammate Danny Welbeck, who joined from Manchester United on transfer deadline day, reports Goal.com.

The Gunners spent most of transfer deadline day desperately trying to sign a striker after Olivier Giroud fractured his tibia, sustaining an injury which is likely to keep him out until the end of the calendar year. There was some interest in 6ft 8in Birmingham City striker Nikola Zigic, but a deal was eventually struck to sign Welbeck for £16m.

The 23-year-old arrives after making just one start for Man Utd this season, at Milton Keynes Dons in the Capital One Cup. He left following the signing of Radamel Falcao on loan until the end of the season, a deal which appeared to severely harm his chances of earning a regular place in the first-team.

And Wilshere believes that Welbeck will be successful at Arsenal and become a key player. He said: “He is a great addition for Arsenal and hopefully he will keep performing for England as well,” Wilshere told reporters. “He has got great enthusiasm, he wants to run, he will track back, and he has got great quality.

“A lot of people don’t give him credit for his technical ability, but he is great on the ball. I am sure there were a few clubs wanting him and there are not many players his age who move from one big club to another big club so that shows his quality.”
