Everton are hoping to end a fine week both domestically and in Europe by claiming all three points against winless Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.
Two mistakes from West Bromwich Albion undoubtedly aided the Toffees’ cause in their last Premier League game, but their superiority showed for much of the encounter, and it also allowed Romelu Lukaku to score his first goal since his £28m permanent move to the club. They then ruthlessly dispatched Wolfsburg in the Europa League in front of a delighted crowd, and they now look back in business.
Despite seeing goalkeeper Julian Speroni brilliantly deny a late penalty, Crystal Palace will still see the goalless draw with Burnley as two points dropped, as it was a home game against a side expected to be a direct rival in the battle against relegation. It will be an extremely difficult task to repeat their surprise success at Everton last season, but in Jason Puncheon, Marouane Chamakh and Dwight Gayle they have three dangerous attacking players.
Sylvain Distin returns for Everton, but John Stones is likely to keep his place at centre-back. Leighton Baines will be assessed after picking up a blow to the head against Wolfsburg.
Crystal Palace are able to call upon Joe Ledley and Wilfried Zaha despite both picking up minor injuries against Burnley.
