Hazard close to agreeing new Chelsea contract

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard is close to signing a new five-year contract with the club, which would see him become their highest paid player, the Daily Mail has reported.

The new deal will see the Belgian earn around £200,000 per week, while it also intended to ward off the interest of Paris St. Germain, who have been heavily linked with making a move to bring Hazard back to French football.

Talks with Hazard’s lawyer are at an advanced stage, and Chelsea are hoping that a conclusion to the negotiations can be reached over the coming weeks, and that he can follow in the footsteps of compatriot Thibaut Courtois and Spanish full-back Cesar Azpilicueta in committing his future to the West London club.

Hazard arrived at Chelsea from Lille in the summer of 2012, helping the Blues to the Europa League title in his first season. Last time around, his performances were more consistent, earning him the club’s Player of the Year award. Since joining, he has scored 31 goals in 114 appearances in all competitions.
