Man City’s ‘Mini Messi’ in line for potential debut

With Manchester City in League Cup action tonight and suffering several first team injuries Manuel Pellegrini is considering giving Jose Angel Pozo – dubbed ‘Mini Messi’ – his senior debut, the Telegraph is reporting.

Having signed the Spanish youngster from Real Madrid’s academy for what is a large sum for a youth player, £2.4m, back in 2012 the striker has been turning in some very impressive performances for City’s youth side.

These have led to comparisons with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and the 18-year-old could be in line for a senior appearance as the holders start their defence of the trophy against Sheffield Wednesday.

City have picked up a number of first team injuries in recent weeks – Sergio Aguero is nursing a bruised knee, David Silva has an ankle problem and Samir Nasri has a groin complaint while Fernando and Stefan Jovetic are still recovering from lingering injuries and Pablo Zabaleta is suspended.

Pozo, who was prized away from Madrid’s academy on a five year contract, was actually considered for a place on the bench in City’s crunch clash with Chelsea last weekend having been drafted into the 20-man squad.

But now he could make his City bow against the Championship club.
