Man Utd vs West Ham – Premier League preview and team news

After Manchester United’s remarkable defeat at Leicester City, an expectant crowd waits at Old Trafford for redemption against West Ham United, who have lost on each of their last seven visits.

When Ander Herrera’s neat flick put the Red Devils 3-1 in front in the East Midlands, all the talk was of the club’s expensive attacking talents and the impact they had made, with Angel Di Maria shining in particular. However, their defensive frailties became the headline as Leicester took them apart in the final half hour.

Back at home, the target here will be to produce a backlash similar to the one against Queens Park Rangers recently, but with only one senior central defender available, they could be vulnerable once again.

West Ham are a team that now comes out and attacks away from home, and they have looked dangerous going forward in taking four points from Crystal Palace and Hull City. Manager Sam Allardyce may not be so willing to commit men forward here, but the victory over Liverpool last time out will do wonders for their confidence, and the performance will have filled some of their sceptical supporters with newfound optimism.

Phil Jones and Jonathan Evans are both injured for United while Tyler Blackett is banned, leaving Louis van Gaal with a crisis at the heart of his defence. Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini also miss out.

The London club are unable to call upon midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate, who is injured along with Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan and Joey O’Brien.
