Mignolet not concerned by Liverpool links with Valdes

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet insists he is not worried by speculation connecting former Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes with a move to Anfield, ESPN has reported.

Valdes is currently a free agent, leaving Camp Nou at the end of the season when his contract expired, but hasn’t played since March due to a cruciate ligament injury. It has however been suggested that Liverpool will approach the Spain international once he has recovered, with Valdes able to sign for a new club outside the transfer window due to his free agent status.

“The only pressure is what you put yourself under,” Mignolet replied when asked if he felt under pressure by the Valdes rumours. “We are all football players and we are here to do our best. You want to work hard in training and we will see what happens at a weekend. I can only do my best, work hard, be positive and confident and I believe in myself. That is the only thing I can do.

“If I have to look into all the people and players who are linked with Liverpool, then there will be another team on the pitch. Every week there would be a different 11 playing,” he continued. “I am here to play my game and to do my best every week, I can only work hard in training, be positive and make sure I play well at the weekend.”

Mignolet moved to Anfield last summer, signing for the Reds from Sunderland in a £9m deal, having made 101 appearances for the Black Cats since a 2010 switch from Belgian club Sint-Truiden.
