Newcastle United will want to ease the pressure on under-fire boss Alan Pardew when they host Hull City on Saturday.
There was widespread protest among the visiting supporters as the Magpies surrendered meekly to Southampton in their last game. They were never really in it, allowing the Saints to dominate throughout. The result, and the response of the fans, prompted owner Mike Ashley to reassure Pardew over his position, but should they fall behind here, the atmosphere at St. James’ Park could soon turn poisonous.
Frustrating the home crowd will be high on Hull’s agenda as they search for a first win since opening day. They will be rueful that they twice allowed leads to slip against West Ham United on Monday, but impressed at how much more of a goal threat they seemed to carry, with new record signing Abel Hernandez making an instant impact on his debut. The Uruguayan will now be looking to unsettle a nervy Newcastle backline.
Rolando Aarons, Siem De Jong and Davide Santon are some way away from returning to action for Newcastle, while Papiss Cisse also misses out.
Hull will have to make do without Hatem Ben Arfa, who cannot face his parent club. Robert Snodgrass is their only other absentee.
