Newcastle summer signing Siem de Jong looks likely to be out for a number of months after sustaining a thigh injury in training this week, the BBC
Siem de Jong
De Jong, who joined the club in July from Ajax for an undisclosed fee, injured his right thigh in a recent raining session and after being sent for scans it has been revealed the extent of his injury is worse than first feared.
It will be a personal blow to the Dutch man who has been struggling with injuries in recent years – sitting out much of Ajax’s last campaign through injury while he also missed a large chunk of preseason this summer with a foot complaint.
The injury leaves manager Alan Pardew with a real shortage upfront and will look towards fellow new recruits Ayoze Perez and Facundo Ferreyra to plug the hole behind new lone striker Emmanuel Riviere – while he loaned out Hatem Ben Arfa to Hull on deadline day.
Newcastle are yet to win a game this season and only managed to find the net for the first time in their third league outing against Crystal Palace.
