Swansea City will be hoping to recover from their opening defeat of the season when they take on a Southampton side which has also made a strong start.
A Chelsea equaliser on the stroke of half time was the turning point as the title hopefuls eventually had too much for Garry Monk’s side, but they managed to score twice at Stamford Bridge, and played confident and attractive attacking football throughout, and the early signs are that Swansea are in for a good season. They have won both home matches so far without conceding, but this will be a stern test.
Plenty of doubts were raised over Southampton’s long-term Premier League future after the departures of several key players, but the quality of the replacements and above all, performances and results, have quickly served to silence their critics. Graziano Pelle has three goals to his name since following manager Ronald Koeman from Feyenoord, including two in their hugely impressive demolition of Newcastle United last time out.
The home side will be forced into a defensive change, as Jordi Amat has picked up a knee injury that will keep him out for six weeks. Leon Britton is also missing.
Southampton are unlikely to have Sadio Mane available despite gaining a work permit for the striker on Thursday. Jay Rodriguez and Sam Gallagher are definitely out.
