Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has said that his side have a point to prove when they take on fellow title hopefuls Chelsea on Sunday, BBC
For the champions, this game comes after a 2-2 draw at Arsenal and a late away defeat to Bayern Munich, and they know that defeat here would see them slip to eight points behind the West London club with only five games played, with Chelsea having won all four of their Premier League matches thus far.
And Toure, who also dismissed stories that he was intent on leaving Man City over the summer due to a dispute with the club’s owners, admitted that he and his teammates have plenty to prove in this latest heavyweight clash.
“Chelsea are a top side who a have a great shape and are in form,’ he said. ‘We know it is going to be very tough because Chelsea have a strong squad and good players and are hungry to win trophies. We need to work hard as a team and try to do the business on Sunday and bounce back from the disappointment against Bayern Munich.
“We know it is going to be tough this year. We won the Premier League last season but that is now in the past and we have to focus on improving and being more consistent. As champions we want to win it again so we have to work hard because all the other teams are going to come at us and try to beat us. We need to deliver.”
