United fulfil Falcao dream

New Manchester United signing Radamel Falcao has described his move to Old Trafford as a “dream come true”, The Independent has reported.

Falcao made the most discussed move of transfer deadline day as he completed a loan switch to United from AS Monaco for an initial loan fee of £6 million. United have the option of making the deal permanent at the end of the season with a further payment of £43.4 million.

On signing, Falcao said: “It’s a dream come true to join a club like Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I’ve always dreamt about playing for one of the truly great teams and winning lots of trophies. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and you can’t turn that down. I’m a huge fan of English football and watch it whenever I can. Now the reality is I’m going to play there.”

Falcao is set to earn an astonishing £256,000 a week at Old Trafford, putting him ahead of both Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in the United big earners list.

The 28-year-old Columbian international came to prominence with Argentinean giants River Plate before moving to Europe, first with FC Porto and then Atletico Madrid. His phenomenal scoring record – he netted 52 goals in just 68 La Liga appearances for Los Rojiblancos – made him one of world football’s hottest properties, and cash-rich Monaco paid in excess of £50 million for his services last summer.

However, Falcao did not settle in France, and was reported to be desperate to move on, with a move to Real Madrid strongly rumoured throughout this summer.

But it was United who made the decisive move for his services, with the Red Devils also offloading Danny Welbeck to Arsenal, and Javier Hernandez to Real Madrid to make way for their latest big money acquisition.
