Van Gaal sets lofty Man Utd targets after first win

Louis Van Gaal finally landed his first win as Manchester United manager at the weekend and has wasted no time in setting his squad some lofty targets for this season and beyond, Sky Sports is reporting.

United strolled to a 4-0 success over Queens Park Rangers on Sunday to gift Dutchman Van Gaal his first win in four games as the new man in the Old Trafford hot seat.

And he is now targeting a return to glory for the club, who have experienced a turbulent year since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Van Gaal wants to take the Red Devils to the Premier League crown that they have won 20 times in their history – having seen fierce rivals City claim two of the last three titles.

He said: “I want to win the Premier League title.

“If it is not this year then the second or third year. I want to give a championship to the fans.”

The United boss also praised the amount of intent his team showed going forward, having been criticised up to now for a lack of incisiveness in the final third – they had registered just one goal before the weekend.

This is something Van Gaal picked up on and wants to build his side around, claiming he would like United to also finish as top scorers in the division, even if they do not claim the title this season.
