Liverpool will be looking to improve on their patchy start to the season when they travel to East London to face West Ham United, who a targeting their first points on home turf.
There were plenty of positives for Sam Allardyce to take as West Ham drew 2-2 at Hull City on Monday. They played some exciting attacking football, as they did at Crystal Palace, while Enner Valencia produced a cracking finish on his full debut. Now the attention turns to putting right the performances at Upton Park, where they played poorly last time out against Southampton.
Only in their previous away trip at Tottenham have Liverpool looked convincing so far, which will concern Brendan Rodgers. Only some suicidal late defending saw them scrape past Ludogorets Razgrad in the Champions League on Tuesday, while they did not get going at all against a well-disciplined Aston Villa. Daniel Sturridge is a big miss, but at least Mario Balotelli is now off the mark for his new club.
Alexandre Song is pushing for his first West Ham start, but Kevin Nolan, Andy Carroll, Mat Jarvis and Joey O’Brien are all unavailable.
Sturridge is joined on the visitors’ injury list by Joe Allen, Glen Johnson, Jon Flanagan and Emre Can. However, Martin Skrtel is back fit, while Lazar Markovic returns from suspension.
