The 2014 FIFA Ballon d’Or nominations are out, and five Premier League players have made the 23-man shortlist, reports BBC
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made the list for winning the Golden Glove for most clean sheets in La Liga last season as he won the title with Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea striker Diego Costa, also formerly of Atletico Madrid, scored 27 goals in the Red and Whites’ title winning campaign last season, and has started life as a Blues player in fine form too, bagging 9 goals in 7 games. He made the list too.
Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria made the shortlist after a series of outstanding performances for former side Real Madrid that helped them to the Champions League and Copa Del Rey. He also led Argentina to the World Cup final this summer.
Chelsea winger Eden Hazard was given recognition for an impressive last campaign with the Blues that saw him win the PFA Young Player of the Year. He’s scored five goals this season, but bagged 14 league goals and 7 assists in 2013/14. The Belgian created 95 chances and made 133 successful dribbles too.
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was the last Premier League player to make the 23-man shortlist, with the Ivorian having bagged 20 goals and 9 assists in 35 league games. The 31-year-old helped his side to the Premier League title due to his exploits and was one of the best in his position in the last year.
