Arsenal will be hoping to put their faltering domestic form to one side as they take on Anderlecht on match day three of Champions League Group D.
A Danny Welbeck hat-trick against Galatasaray was most welcome at the end of September as the Gunners got their European campaign going following their poor showing away to Borussia Dortmund. The result puts them second in the group after two matches, with the German side gaining maximum points.
Hull City became the latest team to capitalise on Arsenal’s defensive frailties as they took a point from the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. A late equaliser from Welbeck provided some relief for Arsene Wenger’s side, but another stalemate leaves them 11 points behind leaders Chelsea and with only two wins from eight Premier League matches.
The hosts have a poor record in Europe’s premier competition in recent years, rarely threatening to get beyond the group stage. They earned a point in Turkey in their opening match, but it appears that the best they can hope for is third sot and a Europa League berth. Champions last season, Anderlecht lead the Belgian Pro League by three points after 11 games this time around.
With Wojciech Szczesny suspended and David Ospina suffering from a thigh injury, Arsenal will be forced to play Damian Martinez in goal. Several outfield players also miss out.
