Arsenal eye move for Lichtsteiner

Arsenal have registered an interest in Juventus right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, and have opened talks with the 30-year-old’s representatives ahead of a possible January move, according to the Metro.

Manager Arsene Wenger is expected to dip into the transfer market at the turn of the year, with his Gunners side particularly short of defensive options. While Lichtsteiner could fill a depleted area of the team, he would offer versatility as well as a greater attacking threat from full-back, which he has become known for during his time in Turin.

He has been with Juventus since the summer of the 2011, and has helped them to win three consecutive Serie A titles, scoring 10 goals and claiming 17 assists in his 121 appearances in all competitions.

However, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and although Juventus are really keen to keep him, talks over a contract extension have stalled. If a new deal is not signed by January, the Switzerland star will be free to talk to other clubs in January. Paris St. Germain and Real Madrid are said to be rivalling Arsenal for his signature.
