Arsenal are ready to meet the £37m release clause of Schalke 04 playmaker Julian Draxler in the January transfer window, according to the Daily
The 20-year-old, who has spent his entire career at the Gelsenkirchen side and has been a key player since breaking into the first team during the 2010-11 season, has been a long-term target for Arsenal, who have reportedly pursued him in each of the last two transfer windows.
Manager Arsene Wenger had the option of moving for Draxler over the summer, but decided against the move at the time as Alexis Sanchez became available to purchase from Barcelona for £30m.
However, the Gunners have started the season in disappointing fashion, winning only two of their opening seven Premier League matches and already find themselves nine points behind leaders Chelsea, to whom they lost their last match.
The newspaper claims that Wenger could sign Draxler as a potential replacement for Mesut Ozil, who has played below expectations since arriving from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 in a club record transfer.
