Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara has said that Liverpool should have followed through with their decision to sign Loic Remy instead of signing current misfiring striker Mario Balotelli, the Daily
The Anfield side had initially agreed a fee of a reported £8m to sign the French international but the club pulled the plug on any deal after the player reportedly failed their medical due to a heart problem.
Since then Remy has signed for rivals Chelsea and carried on his fine Premier League form when he has deputised for Diego Costa, while Liverpool parted with £16m to sign enigmatic forward Mario Balotelli.
The former Manchester City man has bagged just a single goal since signing in the summer – against Champions League minnows Ludogorets – and has been widely criticised for his less than average performances and for looking uninterested.
So much so has been the intense scrutiny of the forward’s poor form he is being linked with a move away in as early as January.
And Kamara wrote in his blog: “At this moment in time Mario Balotelli isn’t the right fit for Liverpool.
“When they signed him people said give him a chance but knowing Brendan Rodgers’ formation and game plan, you could see that Balotelli wouldn’t fit given that he’s a static striker.
“But what everyone seems to have forgotten is Liverpool’s attempted signing of Loic Remy. Remy failed his medical at Anfield and things could’ve been very different had he signed.
“Ultimately, the people behind the scenes decided they couldn’t take a chance on Loic.
“With regards to Balotelli, the best thing to do now is to leave him alone. Just leave him be. He’s not the only reason Liverpool aren’t performing in line with the high expectations they set last season.”
His single goal has come in eight appearances for the Reds.
At previous club AC Milan the Italian had flourished – netting 30 goals in just 54 appearances.
