Injury lay off for Newcastle’s Tim Krul

Following scans on his elbow it has been revealed Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul faces an injury lay off after discovering ligament damage, Sky Sports is reporting.

Krul had been on the bench for his country last Friday as the Netherlands defeated Kazakhstan 2-1 but suffered the injury in training the next – subsequently flying home.

And with the scans revealing the damage Newcastle could be without the Dutchman for a lengthy period, although the club have stated that they will carry out a further tests and assessment before declaring any prognosis.

The shot stopper has appeared in all seven league games for the Magpies, who are still without a Premier League win so far this season and sit joint bottom but 18th on goal difference.

Were there to be a lengthy spell on the side lines it would represent a significant blow to under pressure Alan Pardew after Krul put in a string of fine displays in recent games – especially against Swansea where two incredibly important saves earned his beleaguered side a point.

Rob Elliot has been their cup goal keeper and would most likely deputise.
