Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema scored twice, and Cristiano Ronaldo ended his Anfield goal drought as Los Blancos made light work of Liverpool in tonight’s Champions League meeting, reports BBC
After enduring Liverpool pressure in the opening exchanges, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who broke the deadlock for the visitors in the 23rd minutes. The Portuguese international latches onto a chipped pass from James Rodriguez, before steering his volley past Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal.
Minutes later, Karim Benzema doubled Real Madrid’s lead. The French striker headed a looped effort into the far corner to make it 2-0 on the half-hour mark.
Benzema bagged a brace minutes before half-time, tapping in from close range after Liverpool failed to clear their lines, to effectively settle the tie at the break.
Liverpool were much improved in the second-half, with Raheem Sterling, Coutinho and Adam Lallana particularly lively, but they were second-best on the night, and Real ran out worthy winners.
