Man City manager Manuel Pellegrini credits West Ham and plays down European hangover claims following defeat to the Hammers

As reported by Sky Sports, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini refuses to blame their midweek Champions League clash for the weekend defeat to West Ham.

West Ham United won 2-1 at home to the defending champions, four days after their 2-2 draw away to CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, but Pellegrini doesn’t feel their European campaign was to blame for the result, and insists West Ham’s performance deserves credit.

“You must give credit to West Ham before anything else because I think they played very well today. We didn’t make the most of the opportunities that came our way. We didn’t play with our usual intensity in the first half so we’ll look at that and analyse things later.”

City’s defeat to West Ham has meant Premier League leaders Chelsea could go eight points ahead of the defending champions with a win against Manchester United on Sunday.
