Man Utd confidence high, insists Young

Manchester United winger Ashley Young has claimed that confidence is high at the club ahead of their upcoming fixtures against rivals and title hopefuls Chelsea and Manchester City, reports ManUtd.com.

The game against the Blues at Old Trafford on Sunday is being billed as the first big test of where United are at under the stewardship of Louis van Gaal, who has seen his side struggle to 12 points from his opening eight Premier League games. Defeat would see the gap to Chelsea stretch to some 13 points.

On Monday evening, the Red Devils saw their winless away record continue with a 2-2 at West Bromwich Albion, with Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind both scoring their first goal for the club in a game where the Baggies led twice.

But despite their current standing of sixth, Young insists the squad is confident that United can compete with the Premier League’s leading duo. He said: “You have to look at the positives. Obviously they (West Brom) went ahead when we were on top but we came out in the second half and got ourselves back into the game. We take the positives of the possession we had and the attempts at goal.

“We’ve got tough games coming up with Chelsea and [Manchester] City, but we still go into those games with confidence as high as it always is and we’ll be looking to get some points from those matches.”
