Man Utd plan audacious swoop for ‘unsettled’ Ashley Cole

Manchester United are planning to capitalise on reports that former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Ashely Cole is unsettled and make a shock move to bring him back to the Premier League, according to the Daily Express.

Cole left Stamford Bridge in the summer after Chelsea chose to not renew the ex-England International’s contract.

A host of clubs were interested in the left back but Cole opted for new challenge abroad with Roma, but reports have emerged that all is not well in Italy.

Roma boss Rudi Garcia is apparently unconvinced that Cole has what it takes to adapt to his high intensity methods while the player himself reportedly wants a move back to England and the Premier League.

Cole has made just five appearances for the Italian side this season and despite an impressive display against Premier League champions Manchester City in the Champions League, it is thought Garcia has already started his search for a replacement.

It is understood that Louis van Gaal would be interested in bringing the 33-year-old to Old Trafford to provide competition for young starlet Luke Shaw and aid his development.

The club sold stalwart left back Patrice Evra to Juventus in the summer and lack options across much of their defence, with Van Gaal having to constantly tinker with his back four because of both form and fitness of players.
