Manchester United defender Phil Jones missed Chelsea clash with shin splits

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal revealed defender Phil Jones had shin splints that ruled him out of action against Chelsea on Sunday, reports ESPN.

“The match against West Brom was his first after a long injury period. We brought him back and he trained for more than a week with the first team, then had to play 90 minutes. Then he had a sore feeling in his shin. On Saturday he could not continue training, even though it was a very light session before the match. He had shin splints, which is very painful. I don’t know how long it will take (for him to recover),” said Van Gaal.

Manchester United have been suffering from an injury crisis this season, and Jones has been in and out of the side as a result. The England international has only made four Premier League appearances so far, and is likely to be out of action for at least the majority of November.
