Mario Balotelli carried an injury prior to his game-changing introduction in the Capital One Cup

Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe admitted super-sub Mario Balotelli picked up an injury before coming on to help turn the game in the Reds favour last night, reports BBC Sport.

“We had to assess Mario, but he’s fine. It was just a precaution. But the way he was moving about, I don’t think there was much wrong with his knee,” he said.

Balotelli was dropped for the Swansea City clash in favour of fellow summer signing Rickie Lambert, but proved to be the game-changer when he came off the bench to score the equalising effort. But the Italian international wasn’t 100% before coming on, revealed Pascoe.

“He twisted his studs in the ground and he was sent to see the physio to see if he was all right or not. He felt something in his knee, but he came on and his knee looked all right. He is working hard in training and he got his just rewards coming on and getting the goal.
