Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta was ruthlessly honest in his assessment of the Sky Blues’ 2-2 draw against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday, as reported by Manchester
The Premier League holders were 2-0 up against the Russian giants at half-time, but a second-half crumble saw CSKA rescue a point after scoring a late equaliser from the spot.
“It’s not good enough for this team to only draw here. We are much better than we are showing in this competition,” Zabaleta said.
“For us to go through now, it is very complicated. It will be hard for us to qualify for the round of 16 with only two points from three games and that’s not good enough. It was really painful for everyone to only draw.”
After dropping points for the third Champions League group game this season, Manchester City are in a precarious position. Manuel Pellegrini’s side are two points off second-placed AS Roma, who they have to face away from home in December. City also have to face Bayern Munich next month to make qualification almost impossible.
