Gareth Bale could miss Real Madrid’s Champions League trip to Liverpool on Wednesday after picking up a thigh injury BBC
The Welshman has a problem with an upper thigh muscle and as a result he was an unused substitute during Saturday’s La Liga victory over Levante. A club statement did not state when Bale picked up the injury, but said that his progress will be monitored closely ahead of the game at Anfield.
He recently played the full 90 minutes of both of the Welsh national team’s recent Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Cyprus despite suggestions that he was not fully fit. However, he played a key role in helping his country earn four points from the two games to leave them top of their group.
Real Madrid could decide not to risk Bale for Wednesday’s game and instead save him for their first meeting of the season with Barcelona, which takes place at the Bernabeu on Saturday. So far in 2014-15, the 25-year-old has made 12 appearances for the European champions in all competitions, scoring a total of five goals.
