Sunderland continue their hunt for a first win of the season as they take on Stoke City on Saturday at the Stadium of Light.
Not even the late sending off of Swansea City’s Angel Rangel could help the Black Cats to three points last time out, as Gustavo Poyet experienced more frustration on the sidelines. The goals are not flowing either, as Steven Fletcher and Connor Wickham are both yet to get off the mark, and the only saving grace is that the team have been hard to beat, with their only defeat coming at Queens Park Rangers on August 30.
Victory over struggling Newcastle United on Monday came as a relief more than anything for Stoke, who moved up six places thanks to a header from Peter Crouch. It was a superb defensive display, but just as in the draw at QPR, manager Mark Hughes will have been concerned by the amount chances that went begging. He will now be hoping that his side can repeat their recent win at Sunderland in the Capital One Cup.
Wes Brown returns for Sunderland after recovering from a thigh injury, but Emanuele Giaccherini is doubtful and Sebastian Coates is definitely out.
Stoke are without Mame Biram Diouf, who went off in the first half against Newcastle. Marko Arnautovic could replace him, while Geoff Cameron returns from a hernia problem.
