Tottenham striker Harry Kane scored his first senior hat-trick for the Londoners as Spurs comfortably saw past Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League, reports BBC
The hosts opened the scoring in the 13th minute through hat-trick hero Kane, with the Englishman rifling a shot low hard from distance into the far bottom-corner.
Erik Lamela then doubled Spurs’ lead inside of half an hour with an outrageous rabona flick from the edge of the area that deceived the Asteras goalkeeper and curled into the back of the net.
While enjoying a two-goal lead, Tottenham were sloppy defensively throughout, with Asteras feeling they could and should have scored on a number of occasions.
After the break, it was the home side who piled on the misery, however. Lamela got his second of the game in the 66th minute to ensure Tottenham would be going home with all three points.
Kane grabbed a brace for himself less than 10 minutes later after tapping in from close range following a spilled shot from Mousa Dembele.
The 21-year-old sealed his hat-trick minutes later, heading home Federico Fazio’s chip.
But at 5-0, the game took a turn. Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was sent off late on for a last man foul, and Tottenham had used up all their subsitutes, so Kane went in goal to try and keep out the subsequently free-kick. He failed miserably, letting the ball spill under his body, but the team were all smiles at the final whistle. 5-1 was the final score.
The result sees Mauricio Pochettino’s side joint-top of Group C with Besiktas.
