Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino questions side’s mental strength following home defeat to Newcastle

After Newcastle came from behind to win against Tottenham this weekend, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino questioned his side’s mentality, as reported by BBC Sport.

“We need to improve a lot. It’s not tactical or physical, it’s our mentality. It’s a big hit for us. We need to be more strong and to have more focus. Today in the second half, straight from the kick-off we conceded a goal. It’s crazy,” said Pochettino.

The defeat to Newcastle was Tottenham’s third home loss of the season, and has meant the London side have only won once in their last seven games. Spurs have been suffering from a lack of goals as well as a leaky defence, but the Spurs manager feels their problems lie with their head.

“I think it was difficult to manage in our head. Our heads had gone and we started to take rash decisions on the pitch. It’s not easy to compete in the Europa League and Premier League. Today it was about a lack on concentration at the start of the second half. It’s hard to get the concentration.”
