West Brom Alan Irvine disappointed with performances of his fringe players in the League Cup

After Bournemouth earned a shock 2-1 win against West Brom in the Capital One Cup last season, manager Alan Irvine revealed his disappointment with a host of fringe players, reports BBC Sport.

“It was an opportunity for a number of our players who have been desperate for a game to show me they should be in contention. Some did, but not enough of them,” he said.

The West Bromwich Albion head coach made 10 changes for the Capital One Cup clash against Bournemouth, but saw his side go behind twice in the game against the Championship outfit, which saw the Cherries through to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Albion were in fine form prior to their cup meeting, with the Baggies having lost just once in their last six.
