West Ham earned a surprise but deserved victory against Manchester City in the early Premier League kick-off, with Morgan Amalfitano and Diafra Sakho scoring either side of half-time, reports BBC
After a slow and unconvincing start, it was West Ham who took the lead in the 21st minute through Morgan Amalfitano. The Frenchman had the simple task to tap in from close range after Enner Valencia squared the ball into the middle.
While second-best for the majority of the game, Manchester City did have their chances to level the match. Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure both hit the woodwork, and their profligacy came back to haunt them late in the second-half.
In-form summer signing Diafra Sakho popped up with a headed goal from Aaron Cresswell’s cross to double the Sky Blues’ advantage. Manchester City playmaker David Silva did reply two minutes later, but Manuel Pellegrini’s side couldn’t find an equaliser.
The result sees West Ham end the day just one point behind Manchester City in the Premier League table after nine games.
