West Ham vs QPR – Premier League preview and team news

Sunday’s second London derby takes place at Upton Park, where Queens Park Rangers will be aiming for their first away points of the season against West Ham United.

The home side have earned plenty of plaudits in recent weeks for their more open and expansive style of play, with Sam Allardyce’s new system so far producing mixed results.

It bore fruit most notably against Liverpool in their last home match as they scored two early goals in a strong performance, and they could so easily have claimed a point from Old Trafford in their last game. This, however, is the kind of game they will be expecting to take three points from.

After heavy defeats at Tottenham and Manchester United, a 2-1 reverse at Southampton represented a slight improvement from QPR on the road as Charlie Austin netted a fine goal, but so far they have struggled on their return to the top-flight.

Draws on Saturday for Newcastle United and Burnley ensured they slipped to the bottom ahead of this fixture, meaning Harry Redknapp will be desperate for a result as he returns to yet another former club.

Carl Jenkinson is likely to come in for West Ham with Guy Demel struggling with an injury, while Matt Jarvis should be in the squad after recovering from a thigh problem.

QPR have doubts over midfield duo Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch, who will both be assessed, but Sandro is fit despite suffering a blow to the head at Southampton.
