Pablo Zabaleta believes Manchester City are facing a struggle to qualify for the next round of the Champions League after dropping points against CSKA Moscow, Sky
City have two points from three games and are adrift of Roma and Bayern Munich. The latter beat the former 7-1 in Rome on Tuesday night and City still have to play them both, as well as hosting CSKA at the Etihad Stadium.
CSKA fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 and Zabaleta has been critical of the team’s form in European competition. “It will be hard for us to qualify for the round of 16 with only two points from three games, and that’s not good enough,” the Argentina international said.
“It was really painful for everyone to only draw,” Zabaleta continued. “We are much better than we are showing in this competition. For us to go through now, it is very complicated. We still have a chance and we will do everything to qualify but if you don’t win games you can’t get through the group.”
City have thus far lost away at Bayern, going down to a last minute Jerome Boateng goal, and drawn at home with Roma, Francesco Totti cancelling out Sergio Aguero’s early penalty.
