Aston Villa and Spurs accept FA fine over player conduct

The Football Association has chosen to fine both Aston Villa and Tottenham £20,000 for failure to control their players during their game at Villa Park ten days ago, the BBC has reported, with both clubs accepting the charge.

Tempers boiled over in a hugely tense match that saw a melee of players clash in the 66th minute of the game.

During the incident Villa striker Christian Benteke was sent off for pushing Ryan Mason away in the face – with Mason remaining on the pitch despite replays showing he did offer his head to the face of the Belgian.

There were other handbags that had to be broken up by match officials but those were left unpunished – with the FA instead handing out the fine to the two clubs.

Following the sending off of Benteke, Villa surrendered their one nil lead to eventually lose 2-1 to the visitors after a late deflected goal from striker Harry Kane sealed the points for Tottenham.

The defeat condemned the home side to a sixth straight defeat – although this sequence was halted at the weekend with their 0-0 draw with West Ham.
