Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert confident his side can climb up the table

Ahead of his 100th game as Aston Villa manager, Paul Lambert believes his side can climb up the Premier League table this season after a recent slump in form, reports Sky Sports.

“You have to earn the right to get up there. Teams and clubs will always go through difficult spells. Teams have little ropey times they will come through. We have to do a lot better, You have to earn the right to get there and work your backside off to get there. It is not just going to come to you. You have to earn the right to get it,” he said.

Aston Villa started the season fantastically, picking up 10 points from their first four games to go temporarily second in the Premier League table. But a run of seven games without a win, including six consecutive defeats, has seen the Midlands side back into the bottom-half of the table.

They face an in-form Southampton side tonight, with few giving Lambert’s men a chance of victory, or a top-half finish.
