After Aston Villa earned a 1-1 draw against Southampton, manager Paul Lambert was full of praise for his defence after keeping out the Premier League’s second-highest scorers, reports Sky
The Midlands outfit took the lead against Southampton last night, and valiantly kept their opponents quiet until the 82nd minute, but centre-backs Ciaran Clark and Jores Okore came away with the plaudits for a solid performance at the back.
“I thought we played well. We have got three centre-backs out. Those are big players for this club and a lot for us to carry, but I have to say I think the two centre-backs tonight were outstanding. Jores has been out for 14 months and he was fantastic. Ciaran grew up in there, he took the lead role and was outstanding. The way we played I thought we deserved a lot of credit,” said Lambert.
