Barcelona to bid for Man City target Koke

Barcelona are setting their sights on making a January bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, who is also a target for Manchester City and – to a lesser degree – Chelsea, according to Talksport.

The 22-year-old only agreed a new long-term contract with the Spanish champions in the summer with a buyout clause of £55m, but manager Diego Simeone is coming under pressure to sell one of his key players for big money as Atletico look set to be entering a testing period financially.

Their La Liga rivals from Catalonia have held an interest in Koke for some time and were considering making a move to sign him in the summer, but instead seized the opportunity to bring in Luis Suarez from Liverpool for £75m. There are rumours that long-term midfield star Xavi Hernandez’ days at the Nou Camp could be numbered, so finding a replacement would be a priority for boss Luis Enrique.

Chelsea are still said to be monitoring Koke, but a January offer from them is unlikely given their current success, but Man City could be in the running due to their recent stuttering form, with some having suggested that their squad needs freshening up.
