Chelsea can match Arsenal and go unbeaten, says Liverpool’s Toure

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure believes Chelsea could this year emulate Arsenal’s unbeaten Premier League season of 10 years ago, according to ESPN.

Toure was part of the Gunners’ Invincibles squad and the Blues are currently unbeaten after 10 games of the current campaign. They play Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday and are four points clear of surprise second-place Southampton and six clear of defending champions Manchester City.

The former City defender has said that with the depth of squad available to Jose Mourinho, Chelsea can go a full 38 games without losing. “They have a good team and with the squad they have of course they can do it,” Toure said. But it’s not the only quality. It is about mentality. Every game is challenging and sometimes things don’t go well for you but you need to be able to come back and carry on fighting.

“The season has just started. We will see. It’s a great chance [for Liverpool to end the unbeaten run] but the most important thing is we want to win the game.”

Toure’s Arsenal ended the 2003-04 season with 90 points, winning 26 games and drawing 12, to finish 11 points clear of runners-up Chelsea. It was the second time a team had gone a full league season without defeat, the first coming in 1889 when Preston North End avoided losing a game in their 22-game campaign.
