Chelsea capable of winning Champions League says Ballack

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack has claimed that the club are capable of winning this year’s Champions League following their demolition of Schalke last night, Sky Sports is reporting.

The Blues strolled to a 5-0 success in Germany to win Group D with a game to spare and once again stretch their incredibly impressive unbeaten start to the season.

And after such a dominant performance on the European stage Ballack, who made 166 appearances and scored 25 goals during his four years at Stamford Bridge, believes the Blues are more than equipped to claim their second Champions League trophy.

He said: “I cannot yet see any weak links, they are really solid and if you judge them after the game today, they can win it.

“And if you judge them after the whole season, then they can win it too! But it was not the right opponent today, and they know it too, and Mourinho is too experienced to get too euphoric.

“But they are one of these teams that can win it for sure.”

Chelsea had several more opportunities in the game to make the score line more emphatic but will be pleased with their nights work.

It is now an impressive combined 19 games in all competitions that Jose Mourinho has not tasted defeat in – the run meaning they sit at the top of the Premier League table by six points, while also through to the quarter finals of the League Cup.
