Chelsea planning sensational Gareth Bale raid

According to the Daily Express Chelsea are readying a quite sensational bid to bring Welsh star Gareth Bale to the club.

There have been a number of reports in recent weeks speculating that Bale’s future at Real Madrid looks uncertain – despite costing them a world record fee of £85m just over a season ago.

It has been suggested that the winger does not fit into manager Carlo Ancelotti’s latest formation choice after injury saw him lose his starting berth to Spaniard Isco.

And despite starting the season in good form before the injury disruption it looks like he could have a huge fight on his hands to win his place back in the side – with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and James Rodriguez all guaranteed places in the first XI.

Bale had previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford and Manchester United with new manager Louis van Gaal still in the midst of overhauling the aging squad inherited.

But the latest reports put Chelsea firmly in the frame and should Madrid decide to cash in on the 25-year-old former boss Jose Mourinho is prepared to make an offer to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Bale made a significant impact following his arrival and the Bernabeu, overcoming an injury plagued first half of the season to make 44 appearances in total and score 22 goals – including the second as they came from behind to win 4-1 against rivals Atletico Madrid and claim their record tenth Champions League crown.

This campaign started brightly before injury with the Welshman pitching in six goals from 14 games.
