Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher scored twice as the Black Cats earned a long-awaited away win to Crystal Palace last night, reports BBC
Sunderland took the lead in Monday night’s clash, with Fletcher steering a header past Palace ‘keeper Julian Speroni. The North-East outfit held their slim 1-0 lead until the break, but the second-half saw the hosts work their way back into the game.
Crystal Palace’s pressure soon told minutes before the hour mark, with Sunderland defender Wes Brown scoring an own goal to level the match. The Eagles pushed on to go ahead in the game, but couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Sunderland punished their profligacy, with Jordi Gomez drilling n effort from outside the box to put the away side ahead again. The game was end-to-end, with Palace pushing for another equaliser and Sunderland subsequently countering when their attack broke down.
Fletcher curled an effort with the outside of his left foot inside the area to make it 3-1 to Sunderland, sealing their first away league win of the season.
