Victory for out-of-form Leicester City against Sunderland would see them move out of the Premier League’s bottom three and leapfrog their opponents.
The international break perhaps came at a good time for the East Midlands club, as it provided a chance to regroup and reassess matters in the wake of a run of poor results which has left their positive start to the season in tatters.
The biggest concern for manager Nigel Pearson is the complete lack of a goal threat that his side have carried in recent weeks, a problem which he has not faced at any time previously in either of his two spells in charge, and he knows they cannot afford another defeat here.
Sunderland came through a similar test at the beginning of November, ending their own tough period with a 3-1 success at Crystal Palace. They followed that result up with a creditable 1-1 draw against Everton, but there will have been regrets that they could not hold on for victory having led with just minutes to go. Still, there are now plenty more reasons for Gustavo Poyet to feel positive ahead of another important run of games.
Leicester finally have Matthew Upson back after a long-term injury but he is unlikely to play. Midfielder Dean Hammond is out with a calf injury.
Poyet has major doubts over right-back Billy Jones and winger Emanuele Giaccherini, while Patrick van Aanholt is definitely absent.
