Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard plays down rumours of a fallout with manager Brendan Rodgers

After Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard was dropped to the bench in their 1-0 home win against Stoke City, the former England international was keen to highlight there was no rift between him and the Reds coach, reports Sky Sports.

“Just to set the record straight media talk of a fall out between us 2 is NONSENSE ..have a nice Sunday,” he said, via his Instagram.

Rumours had arisen that the two had fallen out after Gerrard was named on the bench on his 16th anniversary since making his senior debut for the Reds. But he came on in the second-half as the Merseyside club earned a late 1-0 win against Stoke City at Anfield.

Gerrard, 34, is in the last year of his deal and has a host of fixtures coming up thick and fast that will take their toll on his condition, which is what Rodgers alluded to when asked about his decision to rest the captain.
