Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has admitted that his side need to raise their performance levels if they are to take anything from their next two crucial fixtures, Sky
Last season’s Premier League runners-up have struggled so far this time around, losing four of their first 10 games in the top-flight and finding it difficult to get to grips with the Champions League, having made it into the competition for the first time since 2009.
They suffered defeat again at Newcastle United on Saturday, and they now face a trip to European champions Real Madrid on Tuesday, having lost 3-0 in the reverse fixture at Anfield. After that, they take on Premier League leaders Chelsea at the weekend.
And Henderson admits that he and his teammates must play better if they are to have a chance in both matches. He said: “They are two big games, two games to show that we can score goals and defend better. We’ll look forward to that still. We’ll work hard during the week and put in two good performances, hopefully, against two top teams.
“It’s down to the whole team, especially the midfielders and the attackers, to make runs in behind and create lots of options and movement and combination play as well. I just thought we didn’t do as well as we know we can, so we’ll have to improve.”
